About Us
Whitehead Plumbing & Gas Ltd - Customer service
Big enough to handle any job, small enough to care
Led by Mark Whitehead, a Director of the NZ Society of Master Plumbers, we have 6 qualified tradesmen, a highly capable apprentice, 5 fully-equipped vans and a super-efficient office manager. All of this adds up to a tremendous team who are big enough to handle any job, yet small enough to care about every job.
As well as being good at what we do, you will find the people who work at Whitehead Plumbing & Gas friendly, obliging and agreeable. Nothing is a problem for our staff and we go out of our way to ensure you receive excellent customer service from start to finish.
We'll keep you informed every step of the way
With over 30 years experience in the business, we have been exposed to a range of situations and know that every job and every situation is different. When there is more involved with a job than meets the eye, we will clearly explain to you what needs to be done, and why, and then advise you on the best solution for your situation.
We take particular pride in:
- Choosing the right, quality assured materials for each job
- Conducting thorough technical diagnostics and job testing
- Carrying out exact work, aiming to get it right first time, every time
- Keeping our professional standards up to date - all of our staff undertake regular professional development and in-house training
We tidy up after ourselves
There's no getting around it - plumbing and drainlaying can sometimes be a dirty business. We know that the last thing you want when the tradesmen leave is a big mess in your property.
Whether working inside or out, we always respect your property. You can be sure we'll tidy up after ourselves and when working outside, will aim to complete the work with minimum disruption to your driveway, footpaths or gardens.
We'll manage a job to make your life easier
Often when you're making changes to a property you're going to need more than just a plumber, or a gasfitter or a drainlayer. We have well established working relationships with associated professional tradespeople (such as builders, electricians, gibstoppers and painters) and can coordinate a wider team of people to get your job done quickly and efficiently.
Whitehead Plumbing & Gas Ltd - Our team
At Whitehead Plumbing & Gas, we have a great team of loyal staff offering a diverse range of skills. We're a friendly obliging lot too and when you deal with us, you'll always find our people willing to help you out in any way we can.

Mark Whitehead - Managing Director
Mark Whitehead has been trading as a self-employed plumber for nearly 30 years.
After completing his plumbing apprenticeship in Christchurch, Mark decided he'd like to work for himself. In 1979 he formed his own company which has traded successfully for nearly 30 years. In 1993 Mark shifted the business to its current location in Grafton Street, Woolston.
Throughout this time Mark's philosophy has always been to provide the highest level of workmanship and to focus on the customer, ensuring that they consistently receive excellent, reliable service.
Mark appreciates the importance of training.
To ensure that everyone working at Whitehead Plumbing & Gas consistently delivers quality service, Mark regularly organises staff in-house training sessions. Our tradespeople also complete external training courses keeping our professional knowledge, skills and areas of expertise up to date.
As a Director of the NZ Society of Master Plumbers, Mark has been instrumental in the formation of Masterlink, a national group apprenticeship scheme and is also a Director of the Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying ITO (Industry Training Organisation).
Actively involved in the industry in a voluntary capacity for several decades, he was recently invested as Life Member of the Canterbury Master Plumbers' Association.
Mark lives in Sumner with his wife and their two adult children. They all enjoy the outdoor environment and enjoy mountain biking, rugby, swimming, surf lifesaving, walking and gardening.
